In March the number of resident visitors at accommodation establishments has increased
Accordingly data of the Central Statistical Bureau, in March 2021 the number of foreign and resident visitors comprised 48.2 thousand, which is 39.4 % less than in March 2020 and 6.7 % more than in February this year. As compared to March of the previous year, the number of nights spent by visitors has reduced by 45.1 % and comprised 96.1 thousand nights.
In March 2021, 7.3 thousand foreign visitors were hosted at tourist accommodation establishments, which is 83.7 % less than in March 2020. The number of nights spent by non-residents has reduced by 82.6 % and comprised 17.4 thousand. In turn, the number of Latvian visitors hosted, compared to March 2020, rose by 16.7 % and comprised 41 thousand. The number of nights spent by residents has grown by 4.7 % and comprised 78.7 thousand.
In the 1st quarter of 2021 the number of foreign and resident visitors in Latvian tourist accommodation establishments comprised 131.2 thousand, which is 67.2 % less than in the 1st quarter of 2020. As compared to the 1st quarter of the previous year, the number of nights spent by visitors has reduced by 68 % and comprised 260.8 thousand nights. Visitors spent an average of 2 nights at tourist accommodation establishments.
In the 1st quarter of 2021 the number of foreign visitors comprised 22.5 thousand, which is 91.2 % less than in the 1st quarter of the previous year. The number of nights spent by them has reduced by 90 % and comprised 54.1 thousand. The majority of foreign visitors came from Russia (2.7 thousand), Germany and Estonia (2.1 thousand), Lithuania (1.9 thousand), Poland (1.7 thousand), United Kingdom (1.4 thousand) and Ukraine (1.1 thousand).
Out of foreign visitors 34.1 % or 7.7 thousand came from neighbouring countries – Russia (12 %), Estonia (9.1 %), Lithuania (8.6 %) and Belarus (4.4 %).
Most foreign visitors stayed in Riga (82.9 %), Liepāja (3.4 %) and Jūrmala (2.8 %).
In the 1st quarter of 2021 tourist accommodation establishments hosted 108.7 thousand Latvian residents, which is 24.7 % less than in the 1st quarter of 2020. Compared to a year ago, the number of nights spent by residents has reduced by 24.4 % and comprised 206.7 thousand.
Latvian visitors stayed mostly in Riga (32.6 %), Jūrmala (10.8 %), Liepāja (7.2 %), Madona municipality (3.8 %), Amata municipality and Daugavpils (3 %) and Kuldīga municipality (2.9 %).
