Manufacturing production output increased by 2.4 % in October

Data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to October 2020, in October 2021 industrial production output1 increased by 2.4 % according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices. Production output increase was registered in manufacturing - by 3.9 %, in mining and quarrying - by 3.1 %, but decreased in electricity and gas supply - by 7.1 %.

Compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, manufacturing production output growth remained significant in the manufacture of furniture - by 30.6 %, in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c - by 21.6 % and chemical manufacture of substances and chemical products - by 20 %. Output also increased in two of the three largest sectors, food production - by 1.2 % and manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment - by 14.6 %.

In turn, the production volume decreased in repair and installation of machinery and equipment - by 19.2 %, in the manufacture of electrical equipment - by 4.2 %, and in the manufacture of the largest manufacturing industry: in the manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork- by 6.4 %.

In October 2021, compared to September 2021, manufacturing production output according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices decreased by 1.5 %. The decline in production was in electricity and gas supply by 7,6 % and manufacturing – by 0,4 %, in turn increase was observed in mining and quarrying - by 0,4 %.

Methodological explanations

1 Industrial production is calculated by summing the self-produced products sold and industrial services provided in a given month with the changes in stocks of finished products and work in progress. The industrial production volume index (IPI) describes changes in the volume of industrial production during the reference period in comparison to the base period. IPI is estimated by recalculating the production output indicator at constant prices with the help of producer price indices.

2Industrial turnover is the self-produced products sold and industrial services provided in a given month. The industrial turnover index measures the monthly development of market demand for industrial goods and services. It is calculated at current prices without excluding price influence Unlike industrial goods that also include unfinished goods and goods in stock, turnover only includes the goods sold and industrial services provided.
